Add-On Domains
Q. What is an add-on domain?
A. An add-on domain is a fully functional domain that will work out of a folder in your main site's FTP.
Q. What should I know before setting up an add-on domain?
A. You cannot create an add-on domain if your domain's DNS hasn't proprograted. So after you change the domain's DNS, you will need to wait 24-48 hours before attempting to create your add-on domain.
Q. How do I create an add-on domain?
A. There are three fields cpanel asks for when creating an addon domain. 1. "New Domain Name": You will enter newdomain.com. (Note: Do not include the "www" in the entry.) 2. "Username/Directory/Subdomain Name": This will be the folder CPanel creates in your main accounts FTP. (Note: Like subdomains, be sure that the name you give it doesn't already have a folder.) 3. "Password": Enter the password you want to use to manage the add-on domain.
Q. Why does it say a subdomain was added when I was creating an add-on domain?
A. CPanel creates the add-on domain as a subdomain by creating the folder within your main site's FTP. Ignore the message. It is a fully functional domain name. It is only called a subdomain even though it is an add-on domain.
